ShopRite Supports Urgent Summer Food Drive

(WARMINSTER, Pa.)— Warrington Lions Club and ShopRite Supermarket of Warminster teamed up for a summer food collection drive to benefit Warminster Food Bank this morning from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at ShopRite Supermarket of Warminster, located at 942 W. Street Road in Warminster. 1000 pounds of food and $455 in cash and ShopRite gift cards were donated by shoppers. In addition, ShopRite Supermarket of Warminster management presented a $5,000 donation to Warminster Food Bank to help alleviate food insecurity for those in need.

Area residents were invited to participate and shoppers were provided with a list of items needed at the store’s entrances. This food drive is especially important since schools will be closing for the summer in a few weeks and that means the end of school lunches for students.  For families dealing with food insecurity, school lunches help to stretch their food budgets and when school is not in session, many families are faced with having to make difficult choices between food and other necessities.  Items collected at this event will help to bridge the summer food gap for these families. Donations of cash or ShopRite gift cards will also be accepted.

Members of the Warrington Lions Club and volunteers from the Food Bank and a local Boy Scout troop were on hand to work with ShopRite employees and customers to collect non-perishable food items. The items collected will be provided to people in need in local communities. Warminster Food Bank serves over 12,000 people a year in Bucks and Montgomery Counties.

“The Lions was delighted to work with Warminster Food Bank on this food drive,” said Kathleen Beveridge, President, Warrington Lions Club. “Many local families face food insecurity every day.  As Lions Club members, we strive to serve the needs of the communities in which we live.  If there is an opportunity to ease the burden for our neighbors in need, we want to help.”

“Food insecurity doesn’t take the summer off,” said Mike Cerino, Director, Warminster Food Bank.  “We are grateful to ShopRite of Warminster for their generous donation, to the Warrington Lions Club and to the community of shoppers and volunteers that rallied together to make our summer food drive a huge success.”
